The committee is responsible for leading the club on and off the pitch. They are elected by the club and are committed to its organisation and development. Their top priority is making sure every member has the best experience possible. The committee organises our equipment, social events, and club finances, ensuring that the club operates smoothly.
President
Name: James Biggar
Position: Quarterback (#13)
Favourite Drink: Diet Coke
About: This is my second year as the President of the Surrey Stingers (I already wanted a lobotomy after the first year). I’m incredibly passionate about the sport and take our team very seriously. I also love the Baltimore Ravens and aspire to play like Lamar Jackson, even though I am built like Tyler Linderbaum. A wise man once told me “If a tree falls in a forest and nobody is there to hear it, does it make a sound? Similarly, if James Biggar throws a pick with 3 people watching, did it really happen?” My only comment is that we normally get 5 people watching. Stingers Up!
Vice President
Name: Dib
Position: Linebacker (IR)/Coach (#21 but #1 in our hearts)
Favourite Drink: Magnum
About: I am a final-year Psychology student and an assistant coach for the Surrey Stingers. I am recovering from injury but committed to our journey to Division 1 nonetheless. I “played” linebacker in my rookie year and found it incredibly enjoyable. Last year I enjoyed letting everyone know “Punt ready!” I want others to experience what I did while playing; I look forward to coaching our new talent this year!
Treasurer
Name: Dipesh Joshi
Position: Offensive Guard (#69)
Favourite Drink: The next one 😉
About: I am in my third year of playing American football and it’s my third year with the Stingers. I joined the Surrey Stingers as a fresher and have loved every second since apart from living with Lewis Shaw. My favourite song to listen to pre-game is Panda by Desiigner. Seeing how much the team has improved over the years has been great, shame I haven’t. I was last year’s Social Sec and let the rookies run riot. I am excited for the season ahead of us – watch this space.
Activator
Name: Matt Taylor
Position: Receiver (#9)
Favourite Drink: Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri
About: What’s good my name is Matt, and I’m the activator for American Football. I’ve been a fan of the sport for a few years now, a big Buccaneers fan. I’ll be running our flag football sessions on a Friday where we’ll train to win every tournament we enter (update we came second in our first one). Come down and join us, it’s really good fun and I can’t wait to see you at our contact sessions too. I have just spent my summer in America, courtesy of Skilled Summers, trying to hone my running and catching skills to no avail.
Social Secretary
Name: Sarp Eroglu
Position: Running Back (#24)
Favourite Drink: Wodka
About: I’m from Turkey and this is my second year as a stinger and 5th year playing the sport. As my first year on the committee as a social sec, I’m excited to bring all the fun to socials. I have won two national championships as an U19 which I know does not really count, and now I’m competing for the Surrey Stingers. I can’t wait to win it all with the Stingers this year and contribute 5 yards.
Social Secretary
Name: Bogdan Dinu
Position: Defensive Tackle (#83)
Favourite Drink: Vodka Lemonade
About: I am a second-year Business Management student – I am also a Romanian. This is my first year as Social Sec and I am excited about the year ahead and travelling. I look forward to competing for promotion with the team and helping organize some great socials bringing everyone together on and off the pitch. Being a part of this team is an incredible experience and I couldn’t recommend it more. Let’s make it a great one!
Kit Manager
Name: Luke Hennessy
Position: Offensive Lineman
Favourite Drink: Southern Comfort 5%
About: Some people may call me the best-looking player on the team and in Stinger’s history, but the truth is I’m just an Offensive Lineman who knows how to fix a helmet and mediocrely snap a ball. I prefer to go by Hennessy or Henney. If women ever approach me you’ll see me execute a flawless kickstep to exit the situation.
Charity Representative
Name: Alex Kitchener
Position: Linebacker (#18)
Favourite Drink: Neck Oil
About: This is my third season playing American football. I started my rookie year plagued by injuries but after “working” on my fitness and recovery I “played” through my whole second year. Now I am looking to start for the Stingers Defensive Line and set an exemplary attitude for Stingers to come. Now in my final dance with this incredible team, we search for promotion.
Wellbeing Officer
Name: Dominic Furphy
Position: Offensive Lineman (#78)
Favourite Drink: Staropramen
About: I got into American football after watching the NFL and playing Madden so I thought I would give playing the sport a go. I have enjoyed playing it through my first year at University and now I am looking forward to playing in my second. Also, I am into English football and have been a season ticket holder with Watford for the past 8 seasons, I just love turnstiles. Even though we’re not as good as we used to be, going to our games is still one of my favourite things to do. I decided to run for wellbeing officer after holding similar positions in the past so I am looking forward to helping out anyone if they need any help or support.
