Successful 2021/22 season almost complete!
The University of Surrey Swimming Club has had its most successful year to date! The club won the first season of the British University Swimming League at the National Final in Birmingham in March. After winning the conference with fierce competition from Oxford University, Oxford Brookes and Brunel, the Stags were victorious on the national stage too, bringing home the Crystal Brown Trophy!
We also had another great showing at BUCS. At Short Course BUCS we matched our performances from previous years and our performance swimmers enjoyed an abundance of finals appearances. At Long Course BUCS, the Stags placed 8th overall, matching our best ever. Our highlight came in April – BUCS Teams Champs. Despite difficult timing, coinciding with Easter break, the Stags stormed up to 4th place, ahead of notable names such as Birmingham.
Also in April, members of the High Performance Squads competed in Sheffield again at the British Swimming Championships. Swimmers broke many personal bests and seasons bests, with notable performances from Alex Armstrong and Ewan Taylor who appeared in B finals too.
Still to come this season, we have British and English Summer Nationals. We are excited to see a record number of our swimmers qualify and can’t wait to see more PBs broken! Best of luck to all our swimmers competing and we can’t wait to have you back in September.
