Crab Bags and Other Bean Beings 18/11/2021

(The below is the pre-session explanatory email, pictures from the session itself are at the bottom of this post)

It’s finally happening – the session I’ve been waiting for: Crab-Bags and Other Bean Beings.

I first discovered Crab-Bags and Other Bean Beings, a craft book by Margaret Park first published in 1974, around new years 2019 as a result of the post below:

I’ve been meaning to make a crab-bag (or other bean being) ever since. If you know me you’ll know I’ve been going on about Crab-Bags and Other Bean Beings for, quite frankly, too long.

The full book is available online as a pdf, which means anyone can discover “How to make six ingenious, companionable creatures with indispensable notes on their particular characters and dispositions.” I’ve attached it to this email, and it can also be found at the following link: https://www.greatriverbooks.com/Crab-Bags%20&%20Other%20Bean-Beings%20%5BE-book%5D.pdf

There are 6 bean beings to choose from, apparently they are roughly listed in order of difficulty in the book. We will bring a few printed out templates to work from/draw around.

Two cubic feet of beanbag beans have been acquired. We have fabric, sewing kits, beads for the eyes. I could bring the glue gun for the less sewing-inclined among us. I think we should be all set for crab bags and other bean beings.

The session is £2, or free if it’s your first CraftSoc session. You can pre-pay for a session online by searching ‘CraftSoc’ at: https://www.ussu.co.uk/activity/Pages/BuyProducts.aspx, or as always you are very welcome to pay in cash at the session.

Hope to see you there,
Deni

Enter: the Bean Beings themselves

So many people showed up to this session that we ran out of chairs! It was definitely an ambitious session, and we overran because everyone was determined to finish bringing their bean beings to life 🙂
