Izzy – President

Bio: Hiya everyone, my name is Izzy and I’ll be your SDS President for this year! I am going into my final year of Mental Health Nursing and have been lucky enough to be part of the dance squad since my first year here at uni. I have been part of the ballet, tap, contemporary and wildcard teams and was also one of the wellbeing execs last year!

I’m really looking forward to being president this year and giving everyone the opportunity to start/ continue to dance whilst at uni! I am also excited to seeing everyone’s talent whether that be in open classes or the comp team! I can safely say I have made some of the best friendships as part of dance squad so would love for everyone else to have the same experience!

Bio: Hola everyone! My name is Ruby and I will be your Vice President for this year! I am going into my second year of Paramedic Science and have absolutely loved my first year at uni as part of SDS. Last year I was in the ballet comp team as well as attending as many open classes for each of the styles too.

I am so, SO excited to meet everyone in September and help create a strong and united team! SDS has completely made my first year of uni and I can’t wait to enjoy another year of it as well as hopefully see others flourish as part of it too. I have made some amazing friends this year and can’t wait to meet the SDS freshies and make even more πŸ™‚

Bio: Hi, my name is Emily but I prefer to to be called Pike and I’ll be your treasurer this year! A little bit about me is that I’m studying Veterinary Medicine and I’ve been on the committee for 3 years with various roles (tap exec, fundraiser, competition coordinator and now treasurer!) Before university I’ve been dancing for as long as I can remember and I’m so glad I looked out for the dance squad when I started here at Surrey (back in 2020!), I’m also so glad that I was convinced to audition for a competition team because I’d never competed before university and I was so surprised at how kind and supportive everyone is. It’s not just about the competition teams, I’ve also really enjoyed going to lots of open classes and trying out new styles of dance.

I’ve made some of my closest friends here and I really hope you enjoy it as much as I do. If you have any questions of any kind, feel free to message me.

Shreya – Marketing Executive

Bio: Hey guys, I’m Shreya and I am your marketing exec this year! I am going into my second year of Business Management and it is my first year on committee, but I took the contemporary open classes last year. I am hoping to branch out into more styles such as commercial and jazz and definitely encourage you to try as many styles as you want to!

I am so glad to be part of the dance squad as it has given me the opportunity to meet and make friends with so many lovely people! I hope you come and join us in our fun this year x

Bio: Hello! Our names are Jess, Kitty and Poppy and we are all going into our second year of Veterinary Medicine. Between us, we have been on jazz, contemporary, tap, scorchers and wildcard teams, and the jazz, tap, ballet, contemporary, and hip hop open classes. We have lots of fun social ideas for next year including bar crawls, fancy dress nights out and sober socials. During the first few weeks of term we will host a welcome social for both returners and freshers, to help everyone meet and mingle. So, if you’re interested in joining SDS please come along!!

Bio: Hi my name is Ellie and I’m a Criminology student going into a placement year and I was on committee last year as the fundraiser. I’ve competed on the advanced tap team for the last two years. My name is Amy and I’m a final year Chemistry student and was one of your social secs last year. For the last two years I’ve competed on the intermediate hip hop team.

We are both so excited to organise Surrey competition this year and we have so many ideas we can’t wait for you all to see! Hannah and Karisma – Performance Coordinators

Fun facts: Hannah – I chopped off half my little finger on a school trip when I was 10 Karisma – I’m actually ordained because it takes like 20 mins online and I did it as a joke so if someone need a wedding officiant let me know haha (I’m kidding please don’t ask me to officiate your wedding..)

Bio: Hi everyone, I’m Hannah and I have been dancing since I was five years old, training in tap, jazz, and musical theatre. I’ve been on the SDS competition team for 2 years and was the tap exec last year. Hi, I’m Karisma and I’m so excited to step into this role! I’ve loved being part of dance squad so much – it’s definitely one of my favourite things I have done this year. I think the open classes are so welcoming and such good vibes and I have had the opportunity to make great friends this year and hope to see a whole lot of new faces in September!

We are really looking forward to the next season and being able to showcase all of our amazing dancers!

Honor – Performance Executive

Fun fact: I’m lactose intolerant but my favourite food is cheese!

Bio: Hiiii, I’m Honor, this will be my 5th year competing with SDS and I’m starting my masters in Occupational and Organisational Psychology. I have made lifelong friends through the dance squad which has made it the highlight of my university experience. I’ve been lucky enough to be part of the scorchers, commercial, wildcard, advanced jazz, advanced hip hop and intermediate hip hop competition teams. I was social sec and marketing exec for the last two years, but this year I’m excited to take on the role of Performance Exec!

We perform pieces of choreography during open days, union balls, Surrey comp and many other events. The choreography will be high energy commercial/hip hop style so I will be looking for dancers who will work cohesively as a team and have big stage presence.

Bio: Hey everyone! I’m Annabelle and I am going to be your fundraiser this year. I am going into my second year of Business Management with Marketing. I have been dancing since I was a year old and I have learnt ballet and tap, Being a part of SDS will help me to get fully immersed back into dance as I have lost time for it over the last few years, and I can’t wait for this coming year!

Fun facts: Rachel – I only started learning ballet at the age of 13! Eliana – When I was 4, I entered myself into a piano recital when I had never played the piano in my life πŸ™‚ 

Bio: Hi, I’m Rachel and I’m going into my 4th year of Veterinary Medicine. I’ve been a member of SDS for the last three years and have competed in the ballet, contemporary, jazz and wildcard teams. I have been dancing since I was 4 and find it a great escape especially since starting at uni. Hi, I’m Elly and I’m going into my 2nd year of Psychology and last year was part of the contemporary and wildcard teams. I’ve been dancing since I was 5 and found it always helps my wellbeing no matter what.

Bio: Hola everyone, I’m Ruby, your Ballet Exec this year! I am going into my second year of Paramedic Science and have absolutely loved my first year at uni as part of SDS. Last year I was in the ballet competition team and attended many open classes in different style too.

I am sooooo excited to meet everyone, have fun at audition and create a powerful and tight knit team! Competition season (and tour of course) was the highlight of my SDS year so I cannot wait to prepare my team for the next one. I am also really looking forward to hopefully encourage everyone to give ballet a go whether they are wanting to audition or attend open classes as you never know until you try!

Bio: Hi guys, I’m Elena. I’m a first year Psychology student and I will be your Commercial Exec this year. Last year I performed on the scorchers team and competed on the inter hip hop and commercial team. Joining SDS has reignited my excitement for dancing and can’t wait to share the fun with you and create a positive space for everyone to grow. Hi guys, my name is Rayane and I’m going to be your Vice Commercial Exec this year! I have been dancing since I was 3 doing all different styles and I was on the scorchers team and the commercial competition team last year.

We are looking for a team of around 10 people to make a strong, powerful and feminine piece. We have exciting ideas for the team and will be making a lot of fun and feminine choreographies for our open classes each week! X

Daisy and Alyssa – Contemporary Executives

Bio: Hi, I’m Daisy, a final year Criminology student and I’ve been on the ballet, jazz, and contemporary competition teams last year and was the jazz executive last year too. Hi, I’m Alyssa, a final year Business Management student and I’ve competed in the jazz, contemporary, commercial and wildcard teams and last year I was the vice contemporary exec. Our vision for the comp piece is to have soft and powerful contemporary movements that create a strong dynamic dance. So we’ll be keeping an eye out for dancers who can show this balance.

We have both had such an amazing experience being on the dance squad and have made some really great friendships. We’re looking forward to meeting do many of you at auditions and in open classes this year. Can’t wait to see what next year brings!

Ayushi and Amy – Hip Hop Executives

Fun facts: Ayushi – I am an Arsenal supporter and have been since I was young Amy – I started dancing in year 3 at an after school street dance class 

Bio: Hey everyone, I’m Ayushi and I’m going to be your Hip Hop Exec this year. I’m going into my second year of Economics and Maths. I have competed in the advanced hip hop and scorchers teams alongside different open classes. I am looking for dancers that can sell a performance. Hi, I’m Amy and I’m your Vice Hip Hop Exec. I’m a final year Chemistry student and have been on the intermediate hip hop team for the last two years. I am looking to create a hard hitting and quick performance.

We want to create a safe space for everyone to grow and have fun in the open classes as well as our comp teams so please come along to try this style even if you haven’t before!

Bio: Hi I’m Emily and I’m the Jazz Exec this year. I have grown up dancing and always loved Jazz. I have competed on the jazz, contemporary and wildcard teams over the last two years at Surrey. I am looking for dancers who can perform and bring it on stage! Hi, I’m Megan and I will be your Vice Jazz Exec this year. I have been dancing for almost 16 years and I was on the ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary and wildcard teams over the last three years.

We are looking forward to sharing our exciting ideas for the teams this year and being able to welcome more dancers to the open classes! If you have any questions we are more than happy to help so please pop us a message and we can’t wait to see you all at the auditions!

Carla and Megan D – Tap Executives

Bio: Hi everyone! We are Carla and Megan, second year Boimedical Engineering students and have both enjoyed this last year in the dance squad. This year, we plan on having a strong and fast paced piece that focuses on technicality and performance alike. We are so excited to create a space that is welcoming and fun for all.

Ella – Wildcard Executive

Fun fact: I’ve done quad biking in Bali

Bio: Helloo lovelies, I’m Ella and I ama final year Business Management and Marketing student doing my placement year. I joined SDS last year and was so lucky to be able to compete in the wildcard and advanced contemporary teams. I started dancing when I was three and began competing aged 8. I would love for this piece to be an integration of commercial/contemporary with balletic elements and articulate hard hitting moments. It will be a strong and powerful piece with emotional elements and a story to be told. Please come to auditions and just give it a go!

I would love to see some males give it a go too! I am planning a few lifts in the dance so if you know anyone interested please share! I hope to see you all soon πŸ™‚
