Meet Your 2023/2024 Committee!

The University of Surrey Gymnastics Club committee are a collection of club members that collaboratively work together through the academic year to make sure a wide range of sessions are available, transport is provided and the club is as accessible for as many members as possible! Various roles work on tasks such as arranging socials, organising our competitions and ensuring the safety of our members. Please read below for an overview of who our committee is and what we do 🙂


President: Zoë (she/her)

As the President, Zoë overlooks the running of the club. She is in charge of ensuring the committee are completing their jobs properly, to a high standard. Zoë is responsible for allocating tasks to the relevant committee members and is available if anyone has any queries or issues within the club. She also ensures that everything involved with the club runs smoothly including organising taster sessions and helps to curate ideas to improve gymnastics!

Vice-President: Ella (she/her)

The Vice President’s main job is to help the committee make decisions and aid them in any way that is needed. Ella will attend important meetings, take minutes on behalf of the signatories, and update the committee with any news, emails or new opportunities. The VP is responsible for booking transport to sessions. They play a vital role in assisting the president to run the club and helping to keep track of anything that happens in committee meetings.

Treasurer: Maddie (she/they)

The Treasurer’s job is to keep track of all the club’s finances, and keep to track of club memberships. They monitor and organise budgets to help fund as many sessions and activities as possible to reach our goals. Maddie is also responsible for the club debt sheet, and is available for anyone who has queries about paying for products and memberships. They work closely with the President, and Vice President to ensure plans are logical and feasible, including checking our off-site session budgets before booking them.

Social Media Secretary: Georgia (she/her) g

The Social Media Sec interacts with all the club’s social media accounts, posting regularly to keep everyone up to date on what is going on. They create posts that are line with the views of the club. Georgia is also responsible for ensuring our posts our accessibility friendly e.g. having descriptions on videos of what the content includes. They will also be responsible for updating our website and replying on social media so feel free to DM us on instagram if you have any questions.

Competition Secretary: Hannah (she/her)

Our Competition Sec is in charge of organising everything in relation to competitions, whether that be UGC or BUCS. It is their job to make sure we have transport to and from competitions, and hotels to stay in, where we need to stay overnight. They will help to support our members wishing to compete, providing them with any information they need and encouraging members of all skill ranges to have a go! Hannah is also responsible for maintaining the competition kit inventory (leotards) and upkeep. She is always happy to help anyone who needs help putting routines together.

Charity Officer: Ashley (she/her)

Our Charity Officer is a new role that we have introduced for this year! Ashley is responsible for organising fundraising events for our charity of choice for the year. She will work with the committee and the Students Union/Team Surrey, to run events to raise money such as: bake sales, fun runs or sponsored gymnastics specific events. She will also be working with Georgia on spreading awareness for charities during the year, on our social media.

Attendance Secretary: Ioannis (Gianni) (he/him)

A new role for this year is our Attendance Secretary. This role includes updating and monitoring sign up forms for all 3 of our sessions. They are responsible for keeping track of our attendance throughout the year, and checking how attendance changes, to guide decision making in the committee. This includes liaising with the treasurer to ensure club memberships are purchased after taster sessions and that our cancellation policy is adhered to. Ioannis also helps manage transport alongside our Vice President. Members can message Ioannis or another member with any concerns relating to sessions.

Social Secretary: Lina (she/her)

Our Social Secretary will be responsible for planning and organising socials for the year! They are also responsible for collaborating with other societies to plan socials and events, such as our collaboration with Yoga for an Acro-Yoga session 22/23. Lina will be making sure we offer a wide range of socials from bar crawls, nights out, to sober socials such as board games night, trampolining, and our end of semester meals. If any members have suggestions, Lina is happy to take these into consideration when planning the social calendar for the club. Our socials cater for everyone and we will be running some charity/inclusive events throughout the year.

Alumni Officer: Sophie (she/her)

A new role for this year is our Alumni Officer. This role includes keeping our current club members in contact with our alumni members. Sophie will be going into her final (rotation) year of vet school so will be mainly a part of the committee remotely. She has had 3 years of experience as a signatory for Gymnastics, and will utilise this experience to plan new events and offers relevant to members wishes. As a new role, the current aims include keeping in contact with our alumni members/placement members, and setting up new memberships for them. They plan to work with the committee and social secretary to organise new events for our alumni and get involved in existing Team Surrey events, such as Grad Sport. Sophie is open to all ideas and suggestions from past and present members.

Wellbeing Champion: Maddie (she/they)

Maddie is one our two wellbeing champions this year, alongside Lina, our Social Secretary. They are responsible for ensuring members have someone to talk when they need, and they have the knowledge to signpost our members to different services from within the University, and across Surrey. Maddie is also available if members have any problems within University, life or if they just want a chat. They are also responsible for making sure that all of the committee have done their Suicide Prevention training before September 2023 and First Aid training where appropriate. They are an integral part of welcoming our freshers.

Wellbeing Champion: Lina (she/her)

Lina is one of our two wellbeing champions this year, alongside Maddie, our Treasurer. They are responsible for ensuring members have someone to talk when they need, and they have the knowledge to signpost our members to different services from within the University, and across Surrey. Lina is also available if members have any problems within University, life or if they just want a chat. As Lina is also social secretary, she is happy to chat/organise any specific wellbeing related socials they might want such as a Rage room. Lina will be happy to be contacted by any of our members.
