Competitions
As a club, we take part in a number of competitions throughout the year. These involve friendly relaxed competitions and more serious and competitive events. We encourage members of all abilities to compete, and our coaches are there to support you to develop your routine ready for a competition.
Southern Universities Trampolining League (SUTL)
The league we compete in most regularly is SUTL, a competition including universities all across the South. We travel to different venues to compete in individual trampoline and double-mini trampoline but also in synchronised trampoline. Following the competition there is often a social; a great chance to celebrate the successes of the competition, and get to know fellow competitors from both Surrey, and other universities better. These competitions run throughout the year with the first one often being around November.
SUTL is the perfect event for your first competition.
This year, we have been successful at every SUTL event with overall medals awarded to our members for their achievements this year as well as being awarded overall club trophies.
This year, we achieved silver for overall execution, silver for overall execution and difficulty, and bronze for the overall competitions.
If you are interested in competing at a SUTL competition, have a chat with one of our coaches, or committee members at any training session!
British University and College Sport (BUCS)
BUCS is our biggest competition of the year. For this, universities from the whole country come together to compete. This is often a two day event taking place over a weekend with competitors attending of every ability. We compete across two days covering individual trampoline, synchronised trampoline, and double-mini trampoline for all abilities from beginner up to elite.
If you are looking to compete at the BUCS competition we run a trial process after Christmas. This is not only allows coaches to identify what work needs doing in the run up to the competition but also provides an opportunity for coaches to identify those who are ready to compete at a more intense competition such as BUCS.
It is a great weekend away with competitors all supporting each other, and this past year we have achieved some great results.
We came home with four gold medals, two silver medals, a bronze medal and a men’s team silver medal after the event in Telford.
Friendly Competitions
Throughout the year, we run some interclub competitions. This allows members to see what happens at a competition and have the experience of being judged in a friendly environment. It also gives the experience of wearing a club leotard, and being the only one to be bouncing at a time.
Additionally, we take part in Grad Sport each year. A fun event put on by the Student’s Union in which alumni members come back and take part in a friendly competition. This happens across most sports with the aim of identifying the overall winner. This year, students won in trampoline, but the alumni came out the overall winners!
We also compete at Varsity every year. This is a fun event between the University of Surrey and Royal Holloway. Again an event that most sports take part in which decides the overall varsity champions for the year. This is a great event with a social afterwards!
Competitions are a great way to get to know members within the club, and develop your confidence.
If you are interested in learning a routine, attending a competition, or have any questions feel free to ask any of our coaches or committee members at training sessions.
