1. What is the University of Surrey Equestrian Club?

The University of Surrey Equestrian Club is a student-run organization that offers a range of equestrian activities, including competitive riding, social riding lessons, and various social events. We cater to riders of all levels, from beginners to experienced competitors.

2. How do I join the club?

To join the club, visit our How to Join page for detailed instructions on membership options and registration. You can also contact us directly via email or Instagram if you have specific questions.

3. Do I need to have previous riding experience to join?

No previous riding experience is required for most of our activities. We offer social riding lessons that are perfect for beginners, as well as more advanced opportunities for experienced riders.

4. What are BUCS teams and how can I get involved?

BUCS (British Universities & Colleges Sport) teams are for students who want to compete in show jumping and dressage at the university level. We have five teams, ranging from Championship to friendly leagues. To get involved, you can try out for the teams and train with our coaches. Check out the Activities page for more details.

5. How often are lessons held?

We provide weekly lessons for both our Social Riding and BUCS teams. For Social Riding, attendance is flexible—you can join as often as you like, with a pay-as-you-go system. In contrast, BUCS team members are required to attend weekly lessons as part of their training commitment.

6. What should I bring to a riding lesson?

For riding lessons, please wear comfortable, riding-appropriate clothing, including boots with a small heel. If you don’t have your own helmet, the riding school can provide one for you. For jumping lessons, a body protector is required; we have up to six available for borrowing if you don’t own one. It’s also a good idea to bring gloves and a water bottle. If you’re new to riding, don’t worry—our instructors will be happy to guide you on what you need!
