The Biggest and Best Socials at Surrey

A majority of our members would agree that they came for the Hockey, but it’s the social aspect that kept them coming back! We have a packed social calendar with at least one social every week including bar crawls, sober socials and the odd occasion which requires you to pull out your Sunday best and scrub up for the Christmas and End o Season dinners. Most importantly, we’ll be attending Citrus as a club every Wednesday throughout the year without fail, we’ll be at Bottle Bar so come along and say hi!

Dan

Hey, I’m Dan but you may here me being called Pam or Mocha, and I’m a second year Vet bioscience student. I’ve played hockey since I was about 7 or 8 so I love hockey. Having turned 18 during a Covid year I was looking forward to the socials at uni once restrictions where set to be lifted (major L cause they never where lifted fully during my first year). That being said I look forward to being able to organise the first socials with Laura in non-Covid times in well over a year. There will be a variety of bar crawls, clubbing and even a formal Christmas and End of Season dinner where the themes will go out the window and the formal wear gets put on. Bar crawls and clubbing might sound like it can’t be done without alcohol but it definitely can be, so even if you’re not as partial as some of us are to a VK or a pint you’re welcome out regardless! I’m looking forward to seeing as many old and especially new faces out on Wednesdays come semester 1 so you can become part of the loving yet slightly dysfunctional family that is Hockey. #OCOL

Katie

Hey Everyone! I’m Katie, a second year vet student and one of your social secs for next year. I started hockey in year 8, and played ever since. When I’m not on the pitch, you can probably find me talking through lectures or attempting to improve on my pool skills at Bench after training.

When I joined hockey, I didn’t expect the social side to be so big! It wasn’t long until Wednesdays became my favourite days; playing BUCS games, enjoying the support from the rest of the club at home fixtures or completing away game challenges on our journey home. Next, we head to Rubix for a great night out, usually wearing something stupid!

Whether you’re a big consumer, or don’t consume any alcohol at all, you’ll always have an awesome day or night with hockey, whether that’s on a Wednesday, sober socials, random trips out or at our big formal events.

Owen and I are very excited to organise lots of socials for you this year, and we’re looking forward to seeing/meeting you all! If you have any questions, please email me at kb01109@surrey.ac.uk
