Jade Mowlem – USWRFC Chairwoman 2021-2022

I was Social Secretary last year and I’m really looking forward to being on the committee again next year [this year].”

Role of Chairwoman:

As Chairwoman, you are responsible for the overall running of the club, whilst leasing with the Students Union and Team Surrey. You need to be an excellent people manager as you will work with the rest of your committee to lead the club as well as managing your time well to meet deadlines se by the Union and Team Surrey. It might sound a little scary, but Jade has it under control! Overseeing the team and the club as a whole, Jade’s job is to provide he team with the best possible training, and opportunities that the university, and liaising businesses, teams and companies have to offer!

Michaela Jepson – USWRFC Team Manager

” Hi, my name is Michaela and I am a second-year Veterinary Medicine student [3rd-year Sept 2021] from Manchester. I play prop for Surrey and I support Sale Sharks. My favourite thing about rugby is the sense of community and support the girls have for each other.”

Role of Team Manager:

As Team Manager you are in charge of the weekly logistics and administrative work regarding all playing and training. You will have to work closely with the Union and Team Surrey to ensure that all match day preparations and post-game duties are managed. You will need to be able to communicate up and down the chain effectively as you are one of the main points of contact for members, Committee, Coaches, Referees, the Union, and Team Surrey. Overall Michaela oversees our fixtures, matches and training to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Bella Matthews-Cook – USWRFC Treasurer

“Hi, I’m Bella and I’ll be your treasurer for the next year! I joined rugby in my first year at uni and have loved it since day one. I’m going into my 4th year of Veterinary Medicine and my favourite position is Flanker.”

Role of Treasurer:

As Treasurer you will support the chair and are in charge of memberships and of the Club’s finances both within the committee and also on the Union website. You will need to work collaboratively with the rest of the committee to creatively and effectively use own funds to manage necessary expenses (eg. Equipment) and fun ones (socials etc).

Lauren Strong – USWRFC Media Secretary

“Hey y’all! I’m Lauren, I’m 19 and I’m going into my second year in Sport and Exercise Science. I’ve been playing rugby union for just over a year, but have previously competed nationally in Rowing. The girls are great and have an amazing community spirit. Get involved, even if you have no experience!”

Role of Media Secretary:

In charge of the joint Twitter & Facebook pages, the separate Instagram and website. Creates and posts the team sheet weekly, updates the website regularly and keeps everyone in the loop. In charge of organising video recordings and photo taking of matches as far as is possible. Basically she keeps you all updated and engaged online and around campus!

Jess Williams – Social Secretary

“Hey, I’m Jess. I am going to be Social Sec next year [this year]! I am going into my second year studying Sport and Exercise Science. I have been playing rugby for two years and can’t wait for some great socials!”

Jess is in charge of organising all our sober, and not so sober, socials for the year. Usually on a Wednesday night post rugby match although the world is her oyster. Other social events include Tour!
