BSAC Training We Offer
Ocean Diver (Up to 20m)
As a qualified Ocean Diver, you can dive buddied with another Ocean Diver, under the supervision of a Dive Manager – so long as you stick to familiar locations and conditions you have encountered during your training.
If you want to expand your experience by exploring different locations and conditions, you can easily do this accompanied by a Dive Leader or higher-grade diver.
Your open water diver certification will be recognised worldwide. That means you will be qualified to use breathing gas mixtures of up to 36 per cent Nitrox to increase your safety on dives (you’ll learn all about Nitrox on the course).

Advanced Ocean Diver (Up to 30m)
As an Advanced Ocean Diver, you will be qualified to dive with another Advanced Ocean Diver to a maximum depth of 30m, accompanied by a Sports Diver or above. Your dives to 30m must be no-decompression dives in conditions you have already encountered during your training. You will still be able to buddy with an Ocean Diver on dives to a maximum depth of 20m.
Your qualification will be recognised worldwide and you will be certified to use breathing gas mixtures of up to 36 per cent nitrox to increase your dive times.
Note: You can go straight from Ocean Diver to Sports Diver. Advanced Ocean Diver contains lessons from Sports Diver and allows for further depth experience sooner.

Sports Diver (Up to 40m)
Qualified Sports Divers can dive buddied with another Sports Diver, in familiar locations and conditions, allowing you more freedom to explore. You can also support a Dive Manager as a competent assistant, the first step on the road to helping to organise diving within your club.
You can extend your experience by diving with someone qualified as a Dive Leader or above, under the supervision of a Dive Manager. You can also dive with an Ocean Diver or Advanced Ocean Diver, so long as you stay within conditions they have already encountered.
Your qualification will be recognised worldwide and you will be certified to use breathing gas mixtures of up to 36 per cent nitrox to increase your dive times.
Should you wish, you will also be qualified to complete dives that require in-water decompression which will permit greater bottom time on deeper dives.
Being competent to dive to 40m allows most divers to do all the diving they want in the UK and abroad. At these depths you can access the majority of UK wreck diving, and with Sports Diver skills you can extend your dive times safely and relax to take in your surroundings and any wildlife you encounter.
Qualifying as a Sports Diver will also enable you to take part in a wider variety of BSAC Skill Development Courses to increase your diving skills.
Moreover, qualified Sports Divers are able to begin on the first stages of instruction, helping Open Water and Advanced Instructors run training sessions. You can take on further responsibility as an Assistant Instructor after completing BSACs Instructor Foundation Course (IFC).

Dive Leader (Up to 50m)
You’ll be qualified to dive with divers of any grade to expand their experience and, within constraints, complete depth progression dives. You can also support trainee divers to practise skills they have previously been taught by an instructor.
You’ll also be able to plan and manage diving at sites that are known to your BSAC branch. After consideration of the various factors that impact on a dive, you’ll be able to brief the group, delegate activities and liaise with the skipper to ensure everything runs smoothly. On site you’ll be monitoring the situation, analysing what is happening, predicting potential changes and planning your response.
During the dive planning you’ll have prepared for the unexpected and will be ready to act as a rescue manager. You’ll be able to co-ordinate the response in order to ensure the best possible outcome.
Introducing divers to new experiences and managing diving for divers in your club is hugely enjoyable – and of course the more experienced your fellow members are, the more fun you can all have.
Assistant Dive Instructors who qualify as a Dive Leader will be able to progress towards Open Water Instructor by completing the Open Water Instructor Course and the Theory/Practical Instructor exams.

Advanced Diver
Qualifying as an Advanced Diver means you have built up the skills and experience to manage and supervise all aspects of a wide range of challenging, adventurous club diving activities.
If you are an Open Water Instructor, once you are an Advanced Diver you can consider becoming an Advanced Instructor.
After qualifying as an Advanced Diver you will be able to expand the horizons of the club, by leading expeditions to unfamiliar locations and by encouraging activities using new technologies.
