Join the Freshers' Angels army and help over 5,000 students move onto campus during Welcome Weekend 13 - 14 September 2025!

What You'll Do:

Welcome Weekend is the moment when thousands of new students join us at Surrey, arriving with cars full of luggage and saying their farewells to family members. Your Union provides a team of volunteers to be the smiling faces greeting brand new students for the first time. You'll be placed around Stag Hill and Manor Park campuses to bring the energy, greet, and direct people where they need to go. Freshers' Angels help students to move into their rooms and settle in during their first few hours of being a student - when help is needed most!

You or your friends might remember how you were helped and welcomed during Welcome Weekend by Freshers' Angels. It really is a special experience and can start to shape your time here at the University of Surrey and help you feel like you are part of the Surrey Community. It's a great opportunity to give back and provide an unforgettable welcome to our new students.

  • Friday 12 September – Briefing
  • Saturday 13 September – Welcome Weekend 9:00 – 17:00
  • Sunday 14 September – Welcome Weekend 10:00 – 16:00

We will accept volunteers who can only make one day if you are not able to do the whole weekend.

What we'll give you for your help:

  • A free Freshers' Week wristband to Rubix for working the full weekend
  • A Thank-You party in October
  • Free T-shirt
  • Free breakfast and hot lunch

What We're Looking For:

We are looking for enthusiastic, happy, outgoing students who are passionate about Surrey, and can spare a weekend to welcome our new arrivals.

Please note that this is a voluntary position.
