Why Work for the Union?
Learning and Development
All student staff joining us undergo training as part of their roles. Depending on your role, you’ll receive training such as health and safety, first aid at work training, and learn how to use the University’s email enquiry system – One Surrey. If you progress through our bar staff programme, you’ll also undergo Personal License training, enabling you to become a Duty Manager at Level 5 – running an entire venue! You'll also develop skills that will be vital to your professional development, and gain great experience that will help you stand out to future employers.
Support and Flexibility
We understand that your priority as a student is your degree, and ensuring you have a student experience to remember. Our student roles are flexible around your studies, as we understand that some weeks will be higher pressure than others. The Union’s management team are here to support you at work and encourage staff to communicate any issues. Student staff in our more senior roles such as Supervisor and Duty Manager will have the opportunity to support and lead others too.
Benefits
The Union offers competitive rates of pay, with our lowest rate being the minimum wage for over 21 year olds (we do not use the lower rate), discounts for student staff working in our venues, staff socials, and a fun, flexible work culture.
