Tuesday 14 October
Every October, Black History Month offers a valuable opportunity to reflect, learn and celebrate. It is a time to recognise the achievements and contributions of the Black British community and to acknowledge the resilience and pride that continues to shape our society today.
This year’s theme, “Standing Firm in Power and Pride” focuses on the confidence and leadership of Black people across the UK.
Here at the University of Surrey, our focus on Black History Month forms part of our far-reaching and long-term strategy to support equality, diversity and inclusion across the board.
We are celebrating the month with a diverse calendar of events, led by our students, clubs & societies, Union and University staff. We encourage everyone to get involved and learn more about this campaign.
Although we are highlighting these themes this month, our work doesn't stop here. We're dedicated to ongoing action and engagement throughout the year to ensure our student community feels seen, supported and heard. For more information, please review the Black History Month 2025 page and keep an eye out for upcoming news stories, opportunities and events.
