The most recent Union trip took us to the beautiful city of Oxford. Once we arrived, our first stop was the magnificent Ashmolean Museum, where I got to observe all the statues and artifacts, I learned more about ancient Roman and Egyptian mythology, the history of Arabic, Indian and Chinese art and culture, and spotted artwork created by famous names like Pierre-Auguste Renoir.
After leaving the Ashmolean Museum, I visited local shops at the Covered Market and stopped to get a toasted panini at Rozana, a Lebanese restaurant. I also got baklava, a dessert I had always wanted to try! Both the panini and baklava tasted amazing, I will definitely come back for more.
As I walked through the high street, I came across a boba shop called Mooboo and had the most delicious Crème Brûlée bubble tea. With my drink in hand, I continued walking through the street and visited Alice’s Shop (the shop that Alice visits in Lewis Carroll's book Alice Through the Looking Glass). Right beside the shop was Phillips Books, which was filled with antique and rare books that covered theology, history, literature, art and philosophy. Later I strolled under the ethereal Bridge of Sighs (it looks so much better in real life!), then saw the Sheldonian Theatre, where Oxford University students graduate.
Unsurprisingly for the time of year, it then began to rain heavily outside, so I took shelter in Blackwell's Bookshop, a warm and historic bookstore, where I scouted for more books to collect and sat down to read my book for a while before going home.
Even with the unexpected rain, the city’s rich history made the trip one to remember.
