As the VP Support, I've spearheaded the Union's Support Zone this year, placing student wellbeing at the forefront of our mission. It has been my passion to create an environment where every student feels valued and supported!
This initiative began with our wellbeing campaigns. "Don't Worry Surrey" provided practical and emotional support to students during exams through events, academic advice, and opportunities to de-stress.
We hosted two exciting "Wellbeing Weeks," featuring our "Wellfair", bringing together an array of support services, creating a space for students to connect with the teams dedicated to supporting them.
The Union's Peer Support services have had a successful year, providing crucial support to students during their times of need. Additionally, we trained over 160 Wellbeing Champions within our Societies and Clubs, who have offered essential support and guidance to more than 5,000 student members.
This year, our expert Academic Advice team has supported more than 3,000 students with academic and housing advice. We've increased the number of one-on-one sessions, appointments for quick queries, and hosted physical drop-in sessions at crucial stages in the student journey.
In collaboration with the University, we have supported key campaigns such as Disability History Month to highlight diverse student voices, ensuring that Surrey remains an inclusive and welcoming community for everyone.
Our collaborative approach to working with teams such as the Centre for Wellbeing, the Chaplaincy, and Disability and Neuroinclusion has ensured that students' experiences have always been at the centre of decision-making.
Together, we have made support at Surrey more accessible, inclusive, and visible because every student deserves to feel cared for. I am excited to have the opportunity to continue this important work next year as VP Support, and I look forward to seeing what we can achieve together.
