Workshop: Shaping Black Futures in Film

16 October 2025

17:00 - 20:00

Join us for an exclusive workshop about Black History through the lens of Marvel's Black Panther. This intriguing session will include a talk by Dr. Gabriele Lazzari, followed by a quiz and debate led by Film Soc and Disney Soc.

Dr. Lazzari is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Literature and Languages. His interactive session will focus on how Black Panther rethinks histories of oppression to offer a vision of more just futures.

We will discuss key themes, cultural context, and the film’s powerful combination of science fiction and Afrofuturism. Afterwards, you can learn more about important moments in Black History via our quiz and share your thoughts on different representations of black celebrities in media during our debate session.

This event is part of our Black History Month calendar, organised by Dr. Gabriele Lazzari, Disney Soc and Film Soc and supported by the Voice Zone. To find out more about events related to this campaign please click here
