Classes & Coaching
We offer a range of classes for all different abilities, whether you're a complete beginner or an advanced competitor:
- Beginner
- Novice
- Intermediate/Advanced
Our classes are led by our coaches Michael and Nika, professional Ballroom and Latin dancers and UK 10-Dance Champions, with numerous Junior and Amateur Championship titles, their teaching combines top level experience with a passion for helping dancers grow. Our Team Captains also are there to teach and support classes.
Throughout the week, we run:
- Technique classes
- Competitive choreography sessions
- Open practices
- Performance and social dance rehearsals
Competitions
Throughout the year, we take part in numerous friendly competitions between other universities which is a fun and supportive way to gain experience.
We also compete in:
- SUDA (Southern University Dance Association)
- IVDA (Inter Varsity Dance Association) held in the iconic Empress Ballroom in Blackpool.

Members of BLDC can borrow outfits from our club wardrobe, available to all abilities.
Strictly Come Surrey
In collaboration with other societies such as Stage Crew and Stag TV, Strictly Come Surrey is a spectacular show where club members get to be the "pros" and teach a celebrity (nominated by students) how to dance.
Expect:
- Show stopping group performances
- Glitz and Glam
- An atmosphere just like Strictly Come Dancing!

Socials
We host a variety of socials throughout the year, from:
- Glamorous Winter Balls
- Games Nights
- Drinking socials like pub crawls and themed nights out
- Non-drinking socials like movie nights and chill get-togethers
- Wellbeing socials
Members can have fun on and off the dance floor.
