Aims

Starting conversations on direction of UK healthcare – We want to create a space where medical students can talk openly about the policy issues affecting doctors and the NHS, from working conditions to student finance. Giving students a voice – The BMA represents doctors and medical students on the national stage. Our society ensures Surrey medical students know how to formally get involved and have their say in BMA events, such as the annual Medical Students Council Conference. Communicating information and feedback – We can effectively disseminate relevant BMA information to medical students, from developments in UK healthcare policy to time-sensitive national feedback surveys. Connecting with the wider profession – Through talks, discussions, and events, the society can connect Surrey medical students to the broader BMA network, such as associations in other medical schools and practicing doctors already making an impact.

Existence

Medical students often hear about the British Medical Association (BMA) but do not always know exactly what it does or how it affects them. Our society bridges that gap. We’re here to ensure that Surrey medical students are informed, empowered, and part of the conversation about the future of medicine and healthcare policy in the UK. Through this society, we provide medical students a platform to be involved with the BMA and shape the profession we are about to join.
