The Burmese Society is a welcoming community for students who share an interest in Burmese culture, language and traditions. Whether you are from Myanmar, or simply curious about its rich heritage, we offer a space to connect, learn and celebrate together.

Our society organises cultural events, food festivals and social gatherings to bring people together and promote understanding of Burmese traditions. We also provide support for Burmese students adjusting to university life, fostering friendships and networking opportunities.

Aims

We want to build a friendly community where people can meet others, make new friends, and enjoy university life together. Throughout the year we’ll organise a mix of social events, cultural celebrations, and activities that introduce people to Burmese culture. We also hope to help new Burmese students settle into university, work with other societies on collaborative events, and create opportunities for people from different backgrounds to learn from one another.

Existence

Burmese Society exists to give Burmese students a place where they can feel at home while studying at Surrey. Being away from home can be challenging, so we want to create a community where people can make friends, celebrate familiar traditions, and support one another. At the same time, we welcome anyone who is interested in learning about Myanmar and experiencing our culture through food, festivals, language, and social events.
