Aims

The Cardiothoracic Society aims to introduce students to cardiothoracic medicine and surgery, including the management of conditions affecting the heart, lungs and other thoracic organs. The society seeks to provide insight into related careers through talks on training pathways, career progression, and clinical practice. It supports learning through educational sessions and skills-based workshops, while also promoting awareness of cardiothoracic disease prevention and risk factors. The society is inclusive and interdisciplinary, welcoming students from a range of academic backgrounds who share an interest in cardiothoracic health.

Existence

The Cardiothoracic Society exists to give students the opportunity to explore cardiothoracic medicine and surgery beyond what is covered in the undergraduate curriculum. It provides a structured platform for students to learn about specialty training, professional practice, and career pathways, while engaging with clinicians and professionals working in the field. The society also brings together students from diverse academic backgrounds with a shared interest in cardiothoracic health, creating a supportive space for learning, discussion, and collaboration.
