Debating Society

At the Surrey debating society we provide an opportunity for students from across the University to take part in debates that vary from the most pressing issues of our times to more relaxed topics. We give students an opportunity to practice their public speaking and to boost their confidence. We also represent the University at various debating competitions. As a society we also hold various social throughout the year including our end of year awards. For our member’s, debating society is an enjoyable part of their university experience.

In terms of our sessions, we hold sessions on Mondays and on Thursdays. Our sessions on Monday focus on the British parliamentary style of debate, in the sessions we do more formal debates with a focus on upcoming competitions. The Thursday sessions are much more relaxed with the town hall set up where everyone can get involved on either side. After our Thursday sessions we also hold a weekly social at one of the University bars.
