Aims

- Politically organise and represent the Green Party on campus, and Surrey students within the Green Party - Build a community of activists to make real change on campus and across Surrey - Advocate for social, economic and environmental justice - Push for a fairer and more compassionate University of Surrey and wider society - Push for stronger student engagement with politics and democracy - Give students skills invaluable for their careers relating to political organising and campaigning

Existence

The Green Party is one of the largest political parties by membership in the UK, yet the University of Surrey currently has no Green Party or Young Greens representation. We are aiming to rebuild a Green presence on campus to be a strong successor of the previous Young Greens society so that there is a strong progressive political presence on campus. We want to push for social, economic and environmental justice; standing up for marginalised groups, campaigning for increased student rights and making the University a greener and nicer place to be, live and study. Our core positions: - Supporting queer and trans rights, disabled rights, racial justice and the rights of oppressed groups - Protecting and improving our democracy - Tackling wealth inequality - Controlling rents to ensure housing stays affordable for all - Abolishing undergraduate tuition fees and reinstating maintenance grants - Protecting our environment amidst the climate and nature crisis
