Organise regular social and cultural events throughout the academic year, including celebrations of traditional holidays such as New Year, Maslenitsa, Easter, and Halloween Foster a sense of community among Russian-speaking students and those with an interest in Russian language and culture Provide a supportive social environment, particularly for international students adjusting to life in the UK Promote cultural exchange and awareness of Russian-speaking traditions within the wider university community Meet regularly to ensure consistent engagement and a reliable social space for members
Existence
The Russian Speaking Society exists to bring together students who speak Russian — whether as a native language, heritage language, or through study — and create a welcoming community at the University of Surrey. We provide a space where members can connect over shared cultural backgrounds, maintain and develop their language skills, and celebrate the rich traditions of Russian-speaking cultures in an inclusive environment far from home.
