Aims

The society aims to organise regular, enjoyable and safely managed walks in Guildford and other suitable locations, offering a variety of routes, distances and difficulty levels where practicable. It seeks to encourage an active and healthy lifestyle, support members’ wellbeing, create opportunities for friendships and social connection, and help students discover local green spaces and areas of natural interest. The society also aims to remain accessible and inclusive, communicate clear information before each walk, promote responsible behaviour and respect for the environment, and develop a friendly community in which both experienced walkers and complete beginners feel welcome.

Existence

The Walking Society exists to provide a welcoming and inclusive community where students can meet new people, explore Guildford and the surrounding countryside, and enjoy walking in a relaxed and supportive environment. The society makes outdoor activity accessible to students of different backgrounds, fitness levels and walking experience, while helping members improve their physical and mental wellbeing, take breaks from academic pressures and develop a stronger sense of belonging at the University of Surrey.
