Ballroom and Latin Dance Club

Classes/ Coaches:

We have a variety of different classes for all different abilities. Beginner, Novice, Intermediate and Advanced

Our classes are taught by our coaches who are professional Ballroom and Latin dancers who together won the title of Professional UK 10 dance champions. They also have multiple Junior and Ametuer Championship title sunder their belt.

Due to Michael and Nika's experience in both competing and teaching, the club is well equipped to ensure members get the opportunity to learn Ballroom and Latin in a competitive and non-competitive environment. 

Competitions:

Throughout the year, there are numerous friendly competitions between other universities. In February, everyone travels to and competes at the IVDA nationals which are held in the Empress Ballroom in Blackpool.

Members of BLDC have access to the club's wardrobe for competitions. This includes a variety of ballroom and latin dresses that can be borrowed by all abilities.

Strictly Come Surrey:

In collaboration with other societies such as Stage Crew and Stag TV, BLDC is involved in putting on Strictly Come Surrey each year. This is where members of the club get the opportunity to be a professional and teach a celebrity (who is elected by other students) how to dance. The show also consists of group dances, similar to what is seen on BBC's Strictly Come Dancing.

The 5 Ballroom dances you will get to learn as part of the club are:

Waltz, Quickstep, Foxtrot, Tango, Vienesse Waltz 

The 5 Latin dances you will also get to learn are:

Cha Cha, Jive, Samba, Rumba and Paso Doble 

Socials:

Throughout the year, the club hosts a variety of socials to ensure members have fun on and off the dance floor.
