What is Surrey Belonging Week?
How To Get Involved
For Clubs & Societies
Clubs and societies are at the heart of student belonging. You create spaces where students can:
- Meet people with shared interests
- Build connections beyond their course or accommodation
- Try new activities in a low-pressure, inclusive, and welcoming environment
- Feel seen, included, and represented
Belonging Week is another chance to get students involved with your club/society!
Taking part in Belonging Week helps your club or society reach students who may not know where to start.
It gives you an easy way to:
- Welcome new members
- Show what makes your group special
- Build confidence with students who may feel nervous about joining
- Promote your activities beyond your usual audience
- Earn STARS award
Being involved in Belonging Week counts as part of your STARS awards. It is a simple way to show how your club or society creates inclusive, welcoming, and student-led opportunities.
A Belonging event should help students feel welcome, connected, and excited to try new things.
Your event does not need to be huge or complicated. Small, friendly, and well-planned events often work best.
A strong Belonging event will usually feel:
- Welcoming: Students should feel comfortable attending, even if they arrive alone or have never been to your club or society before.
- Inclusive: The event should be open and accessible to a wide range of students.
- Social: The event should help students connect with others.
- Positive and student-led: The event should reflect what makes your club or society special.

Yes! The fee for a recreational session can be removed for your club for Belonging Week.
Please contact m.catlin@surrey.ac.uk to arrange this.
Please submit your event details through the Belonging Week event form prior to the deadline. Once we receive your information, we will review the details and let you know if we need anything else.
If you do not submit your event through to this form, your event will not count towards your STARS awards.
We will use the details you provide to help promote Belonging Week through Union channels, including the website, social media, and newsletters.
Clear information helps students decide whether the event is right for them.
