The Union exists to represent the interests of University of Surrey students and our vision is to make sure our students have the best Surrey life.

The Union is led by five elected ‘sabbatical officers’ or ‘Sabbs’ – the Union President and the four Vice Presidents (VPs). We are structured into five zones, Central, Voice, Community, Activity and Support – the Sabbs each lead one of these zones:

Voice Zone

Facilitating all our democratic activities, including our main election, looking after Course Reps and networks of under-represented students. The Voice Zone also leads on all our student insight work including our Pulse survey and Speak Week activities.

Community Zone

Bringing students together to socialise and have fun, and also facilitating students to give something back to their local community and University. This zone focusses on providing students with a sense of belonging. The zone looks after the Union’s commercial venues, such as Rubix (our nightclub) and Manor Park Social (our bar situated at Manor Park).

Activity Zone

This Zone looks after all our various sports clubs and societies. We have a wide range of student led societies with their own student leadership committees, there’s something for every interest.

Our sports teams are part of Team Surrey, a partnership between the Union, University and Surrey Sports Park, and we host competitive sport alongside recreational sports activities.

Support Zone

The Support Zone is home to the independent confidential advice that the Union provides for students who are navigating a University procedure such as an academic appeal, disciplinary or complaint. Alongside this work, the Zone also facilitates peer to peer support services such as Nightline and Talk Together.

Central Zone

This Zone is home to the areas of the Union used by all four other Zones, including Finance, Communications, Systems and HR.

University Staff and the Students’ Union

When you join the University staff team, you also become an Associate Member of the Students’ Union. What does this mean?

You can join and participate in any of our sports clubs and societies.
You can attend any Students’ Union run events (you will need to buy a ticket for ticketed events at tixtu.com)
You can visit our venues – Manor Park Social is ideally situated for staff who work in the Kate Granger building and does coffees and lunches.
On Thursdays during term time, our main building on the Stag Hill campus (Union House) hosts a street food market and sells groceries and often vintage clothing or other products.
