The Student Equality Network

The Student Equality Network is a group of students who are passionate about promoting equality at Surrey and help to ensure the Union is well-informed about the experiences of different groups who make up our diverse student community.

The Student Equality Network holds monthly meetings where members can share their views and opinions to help the Union best support students through their time at University. The Student Equality Network work with its members to organise, support or contribute different events, campaigns, and projects that celebrate diversity and highlight diverse student voices. Students can join the Student Equality Network at any time of the year.

Our Subnetworks

From January 2025, we have also introduced tailored subnetworks to discuss particular issues facing specific groups of students at the University in more detail. Please see below for these details:

Disability & Neurodiversity Subnetwork

MEETING: 13:00 – 13:30 | Last Wednesday of every month |

This group provides a space for students to raise any issues, comments or concerns regarding accessibility on campus, and support for disabled students to succeed at university. You can discuss your thoughts and experiences about disability, neurodiversity, non-visible illnesses, mental health, and more. This is chaired by the Disability & Neurodiversity Subnetwork Leader, Abigail Hayes. Members can also choose to be involved in attending meetings with University staff to discuss accessibility at Surrey.

International Students Subnetwork

MEETING: 13:00 – 13:30 | Second Wednesday of every month |

This Network creates a space for International Students to talk about personal experiences, raise concerns and ideas of how the Union can better represent and support this cohort of students. The goal of this subnetwork is to ensure issues being faced by international students are heard and taken forward to improve the experience as an international student at Surrey. This is chaired by the International Students Subnetwork Leader, Adrienne Fong.

Race Equality Subnetwork

MEETING: 13:00 – 13:30 | Third Wednesday of every month |

The Race Equality Subnetwork has been set up to create the opportunity for students to share their experiences and drive meaningful change for race equality. This subnetwork is open to students who self-identify as being from a racial minority ethnic background and/or students who are interested in the topic of race equality. The goal of the subnetwork is to provide an open space to network with other students passionate about equality, share experiences and feedback, and help improve race equality at Surrey. This is chaired by the Race Equality Subnetwork Leader, Aleeza Nadeem.
