Ben Sanderson

President: Ben Sanderson

Ben is your President. He is the head of the Social and Support Zone of the Law Society. Ben is from the Isle of Wight, and is aspiring to be a criminal barrister in the future. Outside of studies, he is a keen rower, having rowed competitively with both the University team and his local club in Ryde. He is studying Law (Politics and Philosophy Pathway). Ben’s favourite module so far was Tort I.

John Wood

Vice-President: John Wood

John is your Vice-President of the Law Society. As well as being a signatory role, he is also head of the Professional Development Zone. John is from Bedfordshire. He is studying straight Law and is aspiring to be a solicitor working for a major legal firm. Outside of Law, John enjoys spending time with his dog, Obi (as in Obi-Wan Kenobi), and obsessing over football. His favourite module so far has beem Criminal Law II.

Olivia Nu

Treasurer: Olivia Nu

Olivia is your Treasurer of the Law Society. She is head of the Competitions Zone. Olivia was born in Guildford, moved to the UAE and now lives just outside of Portsmouth. She is studying straight law, with hopes pf working for a magic circle firm as a corporate lawyer. Olivia has an interest in geography and the environment, so she hopes to be able to don pro bono work in this sector. Outside of studies, she enjoys reading lots of books, spending time with her dog and baking. Olivia’s favourite module has been Contract Law I.

Social Secretary: Jackie De Villiers

Jackie (or Jacks) is the your Social Secretary, which falls under the Social and Support Zone. She is super excited to run socials over the next year! Jackie is going into her second year with hopes of being a barrister. Outside of studies, she is a huge music fan and avid record collector, with 60+ records in her current collection (a mix of 12” LPs and 7″ singles). She also loves travelling, cooking and reading. Jackie cant wait to plan the events, especially the law ball, and hopes you all enjoy what she has in store!

Deputy Social Secretary: Taylor Pearce

Taylor is the your new Deputy Social Secretary, which is a new role for this year! He will be in his second year at UoS however, he has lived in surrey all his life. Taylor is on the Politics and Philosophy Pathway, and his favourite module so far is Tort Law in Context. He hopes to work in Crisis Management but, outside of law, he loves martial arts and reading.

Riapreet Kaur Chitolie

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Officer: Riapreet Kaur Chitolie

Ria is the EDI Officer. This falls under the Social and Support Zone. Ria will be going into her second year of the Law LLB course. She loves exploring different cultures/ backgrounds through music, food and stories; so because of this she is very much looking forward to her role! Ria’s hobbies include reading, travelling and photography. After her degree she would like to travel and become a solicitor or barrister.

Support and Wellbeing Officer: Mia Beckford-Brown

Mia is our Support and Wellbeing Officer, which falls under the Social and Support Zone. Mia is 22 years old and a proud student of law here at Surrey University. She has a lot of passion for her degree, which is the straight Law (LLB) pathway, but she also has a love for exercise and working out. This passion has sprung from a need to increase her own mental health and encouraged her to apply for the Support and Wellbeing officer role on the Law Society. Mia aims to enhance peer engagement through peer mentoring and peer tutoring initiatives. She aspires to bring together her two passions, going to the gym and enhancing mental well-being, by creating opportunities for us all to exercise together to raise money, awareness and boost our own mental health.

His favourite module has been Tort or Contract. Some of his hobbies include casual photography and playing video games. he is excited to be working directly with the law society!

Chelsea Lewin

Law Careers Officer: Chelsea Lewin

Chelsea is the Law Careers Officer, which falls within our Professional Development Zone. Having finished her placement year in commercial law at Cranfield University, Chelsea will be in her final year of her straight Law degree. Chelsea hopes to secure a training contract at a commercial law firm once she has graduated. She enjoys going to the gym and will also be Surreys Commercial Law Academy Ambassador for 2023/24!

Mooting Officer: Alex Heard

Alex is your Mooting Officer, which is part of our Competitions Zone. He will be entering the second year of his Law LLB course. Alex is from Portsmouth. Jacob is the Client-Interviewing Officer, which falls within the Competitions Zone of the Law Society. Jacob is a second-year student studying Law LLB corporate/military Pathway. He has a passion for bodybuilding and have been doing so for the past 4 years. Jacob has also found a new hobby of playing guitar since starting uni! He hopes to get as many of you as possible involved in the workshops he has planned!

Commercial Awareness Officer: Robyn Whitmore

Robyn is the Commercial Awareness Officer, which falls under the Competitions Zone. She will be entering her final year of studies of the Law (politics and philosophy) pathway, following her placement in the domestic abuse sector. She is from Dorset and plays Cricket for the Dorset County team after working with Somerset in her younger years. Robyn is looking forward to getting back into the uni life following her year out and can’t wait to share some of the skills she has developed!
