There are lots of competitions to get involved with this year, including Mooting, Negotiations, Client-interviewing and Commercial Awareness!
This zone is responsible for running workshops to prepare members for both internal and external legal competitions. They will organise and run internal competitions and review external opportunities to decide which to enter. The aim is to develop legal competencies and strengthen social ties.
Liv will be the first point of contact for the officers under this Zone.

Christmas Mock Trial
The Christmas mock trial is back this year, come and see who’s on trial and watch the outcome! With this being cancelled in 2021 due to ongoing Covid restrictions, it will be bigger than ever this year and we can’t wait! Don’t forget to buy tickets for the raffle for the chance to win some amazing prizes.
Mooting
This year our mooting officer will be coordinating two internal mooting competitions for students to take part in, there will be preparation workshops and additional support to help prepare all students to take part in these competitions for the chance to win some prizes such as a mini-pupillage.
The Law Society is also entering several external mooting competitions, Alex our mooting officer will be holding interviews and trials throughout the year. Keep an eye out on your emails and our social media for the chance to get involved!
Commercial Awareness
From its success of being introduced as a brand new role last year, the commercial awareness officer will be training our students and educating them on the topic of commercial awareness. Commercial awareness is becoming increasingly more important in the legal sector and is very beneficial for students when it comes to applying for vacation schemes, open days and training contract applications which will eventually lead to further success in a job – It will also help you perform better in your current role, improve your decisions, strengthen your reputation, and increase your chances of winning promotion. Our officer will be posting regular commercial awareness updates on our LawSoc Blog which will help expand students’ scope of commercial awareness and prepare them for competitions.
USSU Law Society is entered into the 2021 BIUCAC competition, we are encouraging all students to sign up for the BIUCAC competition to practice commercial awareness and gain some experience in preparation for our internal competitions. Our officer will also be coordinating a series of internal mini competitions which will occur bi-weekly in the new year – alongside this there will be a leaderboard for students to climb using their results from the competitions in order to win some exceptional prizes.
Negotiations
This year our negotiations officer will not only be continuing the very popular negotiations series but will also be looking to coordinate more interactive workshops to give students more experience and gain more skills which will enhance their CV and future applications.
Client-Interviewing
This year our client-interviewing officer Antonieta will be hosting two workshops in Semester 1 to prepare students for our internal competitions which will see the winners put forward into the external regional client-interviewing competition for the chance to compete against two other universities. Antonieta also set up the Study Group at the back-end of the 21/22 year, which was a huge success!
