From bar crawls and quiz nights to the mentoring scheme and support for all, this zone will look after the welfare of all students and ensure they make the most of every year at Surrey!
The Law Ball: This years law ball date and venue is yet to be announced! Don’t forget to buy your memberships for discounted and early release tickets.
Webinars and series: The social and support zone would like to put a great emphasis on our EDI qualities and raise awareness for inequalities in the legal profession by supporting and encouraging all our students in their career paths.
Competitions Zone
From mooting to client-interviewing, for people interested in commercial awareness or negotiations, there’s something for everyone to enjoy in the competitions zone. Learn new skills and have fun while you’re doing it – some great prizes up for grabs as well this year! Don’t forget to check the Law Soc Blog for latest dates for workshops and competitions.
This year the mooting workshops will run from late September in our brand new moot room and will help students prepare for an internal competition and an external competition, if you are interested in getting involved, email ussu.law@surrey.ac.uk for more information.
This year client-interviewing workshops will be running from the start of the semester and will help prepare you all for the external regional client-interviewing competition, if you’d like to get involved please email ussu.law@surrey.ac.uk for more information.
This year we are running brand new commercial awareness meetings and encouraging our students to sign up to BIUCAC, a competition that allows you all to compete for some amazing prizes. As well as this, our officer Emily will be running some internal competitions where students can climb a leaderboard to win prizes including mini-pupilages as well as listen to some guest speakers with in depth commercial awareness knowledge.
Our Negotiations series will also take place at the start of semester two giving you all a chance to learn more about negotiations from Jess, our officer, and hear from some guest speakers.
Professional Development Zone
Whether you’re aiming for a career at the bar, or pursuing a training contract at a solicitors firm, this zone will support you and help enhance your skill set, in turn increasing your employability! We are here to point you in the right direction of insight days, vacation scheme and mini-pupilage applications, as well as deadlines for post-grad opportunities whilst hosting fun and engaging events to increase confidence, expand your network and broaden your career horizons!
Sarah will be arranging many networking opportunities including a speed-networking event which will enable students to make a variety of connections which can be maintained through your studies and beyond.
The society will also help push you all in the right direction to events that can help you develop skills, plan your future and seek work experience to support your career aspirations.
