Are We looking for you?


The Support Zone are launching a very exciting volunteering opportunity.

We want to build a brand-new team of marketing and communications volunteers to help shape and develop how our union advice and support services are promoted.

Are you creative? enthusiastic? self-motivated? and a great communicator?

We are looking for students with a passion for promotion and content curation; to help us reach new student audiences and raise the profile of the Student Union’s Support Zone.

This is a great opportunity for students wanting to develop their own skills and experience, whilst also making a difference to the lives of other students at Surrey.

 

Role Objectives

 

Reporting to the lead Support Coordinator, you will be working to achieve the following objectives:

·       Create and shape student-led, student-focused communications for the Support Zone

Help us develop a consistent thread of content throughout the academic year, from ensuring that students know what support is available to them to sharing self-care tips and advice.

·       Promotion of the Support Zone advice services

Think captivating student-led content that helps students understand the free advice services available to them, including assistance with processes such as submitting extenuating circumstances and academic appeals.

Develop new and engaging ways to reach students during our Support Zone campaigns, such as Don’t Worry Surrey and Wellbeing Week.

·       Promotion of the Support Zone peer support services

Including: Nightline, Talk Together and Welfare Watch

Help us find creative and attention-grabbing ways to spread the word to students that these fantastic services exist. Help by creating content and organising events to ensure that as many students as possible know that there is free peer support available to them during their time at Surrey.

Role Responsibilities

 

·       Create student-led student-focused Support Zone content for Instagram
(@surreyunion and @ussu_vpsupport)

·       Bring fresh perspectives and new ideas to the promotion of the Support Zone

·       Support the outreach of our peer support and advice services

·       Support the creation of student-led student-focused content for our peer support services

·       Work with the peer support services to aid in generating new promotional opportunities

·       Contribute to the increased awareness of our peer support services across campus

·       Work alongside our VP Support to provide promotional help for our Support Zone events and campaigns

·       Organise events and activities to promote Support Zone services
(for example: wellbeing events, crafternoons, and campus pop-ups)

·       Support with the promotion of key days (such as University Mental Health Day, Wellfair, and SHAG (Sexual Health and Guidance Days)

·       Attend fairs (such as Freshers’ Fair, Volunteering Fair and Wellfair)

 

Role Requirement

 

Reporting to the lead Support Coordinator, you will work to help achieve the role objectives.

 The ideal candidate would be: 

·       Outgoing and proactive

·       A self-starter, able to find opportunities and work on tasks independently

·       A good team player, able to work well with others 

·       Able to talk to a range of different students 

·       Confident, particularly when it comes to talking to students and public speaking

·       Focused and able to take direction well 

·       Able to volunteer for at least three events or opportunities per semester
