Every year we ask students and Union staff members to consider if someone has done something rather extraordinary for the Union, so remarkable in fact that they should be awarded our most ‘symbolic accolade’ – Honorary Membership!

What is Union Honorary Membership?

Honorary Membership is a symbolic accolade awarded in extraordinary circumstances to those who have distinguished themselves by meeting one or all of the following criteria:

  • A continued dedication to improving the experience of University of Surrey Students through the course of their career or studies.
  • Have improved the experience of University of Surrey students through an individual action
  • Recognition of an outstanding achievement by a current member
  • A non-member who has provided extra-ordinary assistance and/or expertise as a volunteer for a Union activity

Who can receive it?

Anyone can! A current student, an alumnus, University staff or someone in the local community are just some examples. If they've done something amazing for the Union over a ongoing period of time then this might be our way of saying a special thank you.

Who decides who gets it?

Our Board of Trustees will be provided all the nominations and decide individually if they think it meets the high bar for receiving a Union Honorary Membership.

How can I nominate someone?

Login and use the form below, making sure you take the time to really explain why you are nominating this person, and what they have done to deserve the highest award your Union can bestow!

Please note that to ensure the process remains anonymous to recipients we don’t accept self-nominations.

Nominations close 17:00 on Monday 20 April.

Submit your nomination!
