Women & Race: Intersectionality Discussion

Wednesday 18 March, 13:00–13:30

Are you interested in the topic of Race Equality? Be part of the conversation today! Join the Network here.

In recognition of Women’s History Month, we invite you to a discussion exploring intersectionality and how race and gender combine to shape women’s experiences.

This session will focus on the lived experiences of women from racially minoritised backgrounds, highlighting how overlapping identities can influence representation, opportunities, and everyday life within higher education and beyond. Through open and respectful conversation, we aim to encourage learning, reflection, and greater awareness of intersectionality. Please find the prompt questions below:

  1. How do you think race shapes the experiences of women in society today?
  2. How might cultural expectations or stereotypes affect women from different racial backgrounds in university spaces?
  3. What changes could universities make to better support women from diverse racial backgrounds?

This is a respectful and student-led space. You are welcome to listen, share, ask questions, or simply attend and learn.

The Race Equality Subnetwork is part of the Student Equality Network. Monthly meetings are hosted by the Race Equality Subnetwork leader. The Race Equality Subnetwork has been set up as an opportunity for students to share their experiences and drive meaningful change for race equality. This subnetwork is open to students who self-identify as being from a racial minority ethnic background and/or students who are interested in the topic of race equality.
