Glyde

Constitution

Aims

Glyde is a running and hiking society built to develop discipline, resilience, and community through movement. Our aim is to help students break unhealthy university habits by encouraging consistency, stepping outside comfort zones, and building a strong mindset through structured running sessions and outdoor challenges. We are committed to building a genuinely diverse and inclusive community, particularly welcoming students of colour, different body types, and all ability levels, after hearing from students who felt existing running spaces did not feel accessible or representative of them. Alongside performance, we prioritise connection. Our hiking trips across the UK aim to bring students into nature, create shared experiences, and build lasting friendships in an inclusive environment for all fitness levels. Glyde exists to help students grow physically, mentally, and socially, moving together, improving together.

Existence

Glyde should exist to challenge students to step beyond their comfort zones and unlock potential they may not yet see in themselves. Through consistent training, outdoor challenges, and shared experiences, we aim to replace unhealthy university habits with discipline, resilience, and purpose. We hope to inspire members to progress toward milestones such as their first 5K, half marathon, or even a full marathon, building lasting confidence along the way within a community that grows stronger together.
