Pilates is a low-impact form of exercise that focuses on strengthening the body through controlled, precise movements, with an emphasis on core strength, posture, flexibility, and balance. It combines physical training with mindful breathing and body awareness, making it effective for both improving overall fitness and supporting mental wellbeing. A Pilates society is essential with a student focused, inclusive, and community driven environment that better reflects what students are looking for. While PlaySport classes are valuable, they are often not tailored specifically to students and can feel less relatable or engaging due to the mixed age range. A dedicated society would create a more comfortable space where students can build confidence, socialise, and stay consistent with exercise among their peers. It would also allow for more variety, such as beginner specific sessions, mixed level classes, and themed or social events, making Pilates more accessible, engaging, and aligned with student lifestyles and wellbeing needs.
A Pilates society should exist because there’s a clear demand from students who want a more relaxed, beginner-friendly way to stay active and de-stress. A lot of people have already shown interest, and current sessions don’t fully meet student needs, so having a dedicated society would make Pilates more accessible, social, and tailored to us, with both beginner and mixed sessions so everyone can get involved and progress comfortably.
