Vet Band

Clinical Sounds- saving pets and selling out gigs

<- Back to Club & Society A-Z

We are a creative space for any students wanting an escape from studying! A traditional rock band covering anything from indie classics to current chart toppers!

We are made up of Veterinary Medicine and Bioscience students with a wide range of music experience. We run weekly sessions where we cover songs or jam to music written by our members with the aim being to perform as often as we can! Since forming the society we have performed at Vet Ball, Vet Varsity and successfully organised two Open Mic nights at Wates House. We have collaborated with solo artists and groups from other subject areas and have become an integral part of music social life here at Surrey. We have also done some charity fundraisers and were lucky enough to receive the Surrey Forever Fund this year so have invested that money into a top of the range sound system. Things are only getting better!

Check out our Instagram page for behind the scenes of rehearsals and pics of our performances so far! All ranges of music experience welcome 🤘🏻

Constitution

Aims

To increase extracurricular participation for those in the vet school who aren’t currently targeted. Provide a functional band for Vet-based events. Provide a safe space for musical experimentation and practice. Increase the musical presence at the vet school. Promote a healthy work/life balance for vet students.

Existence

The goal of this society is to form a cover band made up of vet students for vet students. The vet school is traditionally sports focused and while there are various musical groups, there isn’t one that allows students to collaborate freely with music and perform as a traditional band. While we are initially meeting to play through covers every Thursday evening, the long-term plan is to form a band that can be used for (but not exclusively for) vet events/fundraisers. In addition to this, a regular open mic night for anyone to play with the band or on their own would be arranged to open up use of the instruments and equipment to everyone.
