Competitions

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​We enter a variety of competitions each year in several different disciplines including white water racing, canoe polo and slalom. We compete at BUCS events against other Universities in all three disciplines. Scroll down for a list of all the competitions we enter.

Regional Canoe Polo Tournaments

Location: Various locations
Open to: A, B and Ladies Teams

A selection of 1 day tournaments throughout the year. Great places to practise your skills and see how you improve throughout the year. Last year the A team got promoted and play in Regional div 2, the B’s play in div 3, and the Ladies team is paired with Blackwater Ladies B, and competes in National Ladies Development League.

Paddlington Canoe Polo Tournament

Location: London
Open to: All

The first polo tournament of the year. Extremely casual and open to all, even if you’ve never been in a boat before! with opportunities to play and meet other freshers from other universities it’s a great chance to learn the sport and have some fun.

BUCS Canoe Polo Tournament

Location: Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham
Open to: A, B and Ladies Teams

The main polo tournament of the year! All the university polo teams get together and compete in a double elimination tournament organised by BUCS, British Universities and Colleges Sport. It’s a great place to be social as well and meet students from other universities, with a themed party on the Saturday night.

Cardiff Canoe Polo Tournament

Location: Cardiff
Open to: A, B and Ladies Teams

A friendly, although often a little cold, tournament hosted by the University of Cardiff, a great opportunity to practise before BUCS. It’s a casual tournament and a lot of fun.


BUCS Wildwater Racing

Location: River Washburn
Open to: All

Wildwater racing is a time trial of a long stretch, around 2 miles of whitewater. The competitor is free to take whichever route on the river they desire. We encourage everyone to participate however experienced you are or not!

BUCS Canoe Slalom

Location: Tees Barrage Whitewater Course
Open to: All

A different BUCS competition in which paddlers have to negotiate their way down a 300m white water rapid, racing through a series of up to 25 gates made up of red and green poles. We encourage everyone to participate however experienced you are or not!
