Training

A selection of training courses are available each year and are heavily subsidised for student members. For more information about any of the courses, check out the BCU website. For more information about each training course and when they’re happening find the event in our Facebook members group.

First Aid Training

This course will teach you the basics of first aid and help you to feel confident when dealing with a variety of first aid incidents. First aiders are essential for our club to deal with any situations we encounter in the risky environments we take kayak in.

Whitewater Safety and Rescue (WWSR)

Duration: 2 days
Capacity: 6 people
Prerequisites: None

This course is suitable for anyone who would like to learn more about how to keep yourself and others safe on the water. An exciting, practical course, this will help increase your confidence and show you what to do when things don’t go quite as planned! Click here for more information.

Advanced Whitewater Safety and Rescue (AWWSR)

Duration: 2 days
Capacity: 6 people
Prerequisites: WWSR

Advanced White Water Safety & Rescue Course. This course builds upon and refreshes the knowledge you will have learnt in the WWSR course. You will learn how to deal with more challenging situations and be taught advanced rescue skills. Click here for more information.

Whitewater Kayak Leader Training

Duration: 2 days
Capacity: 6 people
Prerequisites: Should be of a competent paddling level

This is the weekend training course that must be attended prior to attending the Whitewater Kayak Leader Assessment. This course will help you to improve your personal kayaking skills and show you how to apply these skills to lead and train groups of paddlers on white water. Click here for more information.
