PGR Support Hub

Welcome to the Postgraduate Research Support Hub

Only we can offer this type of advice

The Union is proud to offer free, independent and confidential advice. Because we are a separate organisation to the University, we're always there to stand in your corner when you need it most.
Throughout your Surrey life, we will be there for you.

Academic Advice

Unsatisfactory Academic Progress

Understand what the UAP process is and how your Union can support you in both preparing for it and during the panel itself.

Fitness to Practice

Fitness to Practice procedures only apply to students on regulated programmes, for example: students in Health and Social Care, Psychology Doctorates, the Vet School or Medical School.

Support to Study

Support to Study takes place if the University feels that your health is having an impact on your ability to study.

University Disciplinaries

If it is brought to the University's attention that you have potentially breached their code of conduct, regulations or policies, then you will likely receive a notification that you are under investigation as part of the disciplinary procedure.

Managed Exclusion Orders

Managed Exclusion Order (MEO) are placed on a student when the University considers that it is in your interests to adjust your access to areas of the University.

Appealing a Minor Offence

You should know if you have been given a minor offence penalty as they are issued by Authorised Persons within the University and formally communicated to you.

Making a Complaint

If the University has provided you with a disservice then you may be entitled to make a complaint. This page outlines the complaints procedure and how your Students' Union can help.

Academic Integrity

If your work is flagged for potential academic misconduct it will be referred to Academic Integrity.

Academic Appeal

If you want to appeal against an academic decision you will need to put in an academic appeal.

Your Voice Matters

Do you know who your PGR Rep is?

Your PGR Rep engages you in discussions about your experience. Their role is to collate PGR feedback, ideas, and concerns. They then represent PGR students at formal University meetings, such as the PGR Engagement Forum and the Student Voice Forum.

Wellbeing & Support

PhD Together

Centre for Wellbeing run facilitated, confidential peer support group sessions for PGR students. If you are looking for a space to reflect on the unique challenges doing a PhD brings, and want to build strong, independent support for yourself then this group is for you. Sessions run fortnightly on Fridays.
