VP Community

About Me

Hey, I'm amber and I am returning as VP community this year! I graduated last summer with a Bachelor of Science in Criminology. I have loved the past year representing students and can't wait to see what amazing things are in store over the next few months. Please feel free to get in contact with me if you have any questions or ideas of what you would like to see in the future :D

So far, I have been very passionate about student safety on campus, making sure that everyone can not only feel safe during their time here, but actually have real measures in place to prevent anything going wrong.

Alongside my work in safety, I have been pushing for more initiatives to be put in place to help our students feel less of the burden that comes with the cost of living crisis. As students are some of the most vulnerable groups of people, I want to ensure that money problems don't have any additional stress on their everyday lives.

My Objectives

  • Expand student accommodation

    In Progress

Work with the University to ensure accommodation keeps pace with student numbers, so growth doesn't come at the expense of student wellbeing and access to housing.

  • Improve campus laundry facilities

    In Progress

Campaign for more laundry facilities across campus, including a laundrette at the Students' Union, making laundry more accessible for students living on Stag Hill.

  • Bring back the Community Fridge/Pantry

    In Progress

Re-establish the Community Fridge in a permanent, visible location so students have reliable 24/7 access to free food support. UPDATE: I am working on creating a Community pantry within the Community Hub. Although it may not be 24/7, and is dry goods, in the future we are looking to expand this with hopes of having refrigerated goods available as well.

  • Create belonging events for every student

    In Progress

Expand our programme of belonging events to better support commuters, postgraduate students, mature students, international students and anyone looking to make connections.

  • Co-design events with students

    In Progress

Work directly with students to shape events and activities, ensuring they reflect what students actually want rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

  • Make events more accessible

    In Progress

Continue improving affordability, inclusivity and communication so every student can take part and knows what's available to them.

  • Launch a Community Ambassadors scheme

    In Progress

Develop a student ambassador programme that empowers students to lead community projects, volunteering and outreach across Surrey.

  • Expand volunteering opportunities

    In Progress

Strengthen partnerships with local organisations to create more flexible and meaningful volunteering opportunities for students.

  • Improve student spaces

    In Progress

Campaign for better non-academic spaces, including bringing back common rooms on Stag Hill and improving Manor Park student spaces.

  • Create a commuter lounge

    In Progress

Work towards a dedicated commuter lounge, giving commuting students a welcoming place to relax, study and connect between lectures.
