Before we finish, here are some of our recommendations to help make activities inclusive for LGBT+ people.

If Something’s Wrong, Report It

After working closely with the University, we’re proud to have helped launch Report + Support, a free and anonymous way of reporting bullying, harassment, and hate crime. If you or someone you know need to report a situation in confidence, visit https://reportandsupport.surrey.ac.uk/.

Rainbow Laces

As part of Stonewall’s ‘Make Sport Everyone’s Came’ campaign, we encourage the inclusion of rainbow laces in sports teams at Surrey.

Marking Key Dates

If you’re part of any kind of group that wants to make a visible show of support for LGBT+ people, you may want to run an event to mark key dates.

In the UK, February is often marked as LGBT+ History Month throughout the duration of the month. At Surrey, the Students’ Union and University often work on a range of events (some of which are also run jointly) in order to mark the month.
Lesbian Visibility Day is celebrated on 26 April to mark the contributions of lesbians and lesbian culture.
International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia is marked on 17 May.

Volunteer

In Surrey, there are several local causes that work to support LGBT+ people. Allies can support activities like local pride events, and if you’re LGBT+ yourself, you may find local mentoring or phone support opportunities.
